Civil/Structural Engineer’s Calculation In-house Training

To implement the Mote Method in your engineering firm, Civil/Structural Engineer’s Calculation In-House Training is available. The recommended timeframe is one week for a group of up to 10 engineers, and two weeks for groups up to 20 and more. Upon completion, all participants are awarded Continuing Professional Development points.

Training
The in-house training looks at the differences between the conventional and the electronic-style calculations, and covers:
  • Microsoft Word 2003 to construct the planned calculations/reports
  • Microsoft Excel for better spreadsheets designed for the future
  • Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Macro
Learning Outcomes
  • Create calculations in half the time
  • Transformed attitudes towards calculations and discovery of renewed enthusiasm
  • Improved competencies in computer skills, especially MS Office 2003
  • Know how and when to use VBA macros
  • Improved awareness of roles, responsibilities and opportunities within the design team
  • Understand the building blocks to better calculations
As the instructor is “inserted” into a project team and supports the team during their work, there’s virtually no project interruption. Daily forums (approximately 2 hours) are run to talk to the team, engineers and designers alike. The balance of the time is spent teaching a number of individuals to become the group-designated specialist for the team on key items, such as template detailing, spreadsheet designs and macro building. Lead engineers require additional time to frame and manage the expectations over time.

Additional Training
Other topics are also available for in-house instructions, including:
    * Pumps and vibration design of foundations
    * Design of blast-resistant buildings for petrochemical facilities
    * Winning workshare strategies
    * Designing Visual Databases using Excel, for MTO and schedules
